Jio moved out to be a title sponsor of IPL 2020 – TALK SOME TECHY
Why Jio doesn’t want to be a sponsor
of IPL 2020?
This year due to COVID-19, IPL 2020 was postponed but after many
meetings which was organized a final decision came out to conduct in UAE (United Arab Emirates) from September 19 2020 to November 10 2020,
because it is not able to postpone the matches in India.
Almost all of the states are not allowing permission to conduct the
matches in the stadium because they don’t want any people gathering to see the
matches due to the number of cases rising in India day by day. But the decision
finally came out that it will be conducted in the UAE and the entertainment
will start in September.
UAE is also planning that 30 to
40% stadium will be occupied by the viewers to watch the match taking all
the precautions such as social
distancing, use of masks and gloves, proper sanitization, etc.
Based on the report, Indian players will board the plane to UAE on August 27th then there will be a
check-up, isolation, and some other protocols based on their rules and
regulations.
In this blog, you will get to know that why Jio – Reliance Industries, declined to be the title sponsorship of
the world-famous T20 cricket league IPL
2020.
IPL 2020 is searching for their title sponsorship because the current sponsorship which was going with Vivo (a Chinese based smartphone company) has been paused due to the Boycott China movement in India. People have started this movement due to the Ladakh issue in India and China.
BCCI was continuing this
season also with VIVO as a Title
sponsorship but many people were against the decision of the BCCI Governing Council and in the end,
they decided to open the doors for other brands to come.
The BCCI-VIVO relations have
been temporarily stopped for the current season.
As BCCI thought that they
will get many brands offering them as a Title sponsorship for IPL-2020, but unfortunately BCCI has to look for the brands to
come. Many companies can’t be a part of IPL-2020
as a Title sponsorship due to market conditions during this pandemic.
According to the report, no one is taking interest to make an offer for
the Title sponsorship of IPL.
According to another report, during the meeting of the BCCI Governing Council with the
Franchises which was held on Wednesday evening.

The BCCI Official told to one
franchise Mumbai Indians, that ‘if Jio
is interested to be a part of Title sponsorship’ and it was clearly said by the
representative that ‘they are not interested now’.
If not Jio, then what options do BCCI have?
BCCI has already sent
many letters too many corporate brands and till now they have not shown any
interest.
BCCI has no options
left they have to search for brands that would like to be a Title sponsor.
They are also contacting their existing partners if they are interested
or not, the existing companies are:-
·
PayTM (BCCI’s Home Series Sponsor),
· (Tata Motors, Dream11, and others) and
·
Byju’s (Indian Team
Jersey Partners), etc.
But they also showed very less interest.
BCCI has faced many
losses due to the Anti-China
sentiment in India, losing the VIVO
as a title sponsor.
They are trying their best to get one sponsor to recover the losses. PayTM, Byju’s, and Dream 11 all are
Indian companies but on the back of Chinese investments.
If the people started opposing these companies as a Title sponsor due to
Anti-China sentiment it would be
really difficult for the BCCI to
search for an industry that will take the IPL Title Sponsorship.
“All of these companies are BCCI’s partners.
They are Indian entities but we are little concerned about very strong
Anti-China undercurrent. We don’t want to speculate on how people will react if
any of them come on board”, said one of the BCCI officials.
Amazon, Flipkart, and many other
E-commerce websites can also participate in the race to be a Title sponsorship
of the IPL 2020, Amazon a huge
market place for all the Indians where everything is available that a person
can buy.
Amazon also spends many
millions to advertise on television and many other ad formats to bring more
traffic and sales. They also bring many sales, festive seasons for which they
also spend many millions.
Amazon will be a good
option for a Title sponsorship of IPL
2020, but it is very difficult to predict that who will be the title
sponsorship of the league, because the companies have to do the huge
investments and the market is down due to the pandemic.
Unacademy, CocaCola is also listed and
the responses are still awaiting that if anyone o them is interested or
not.
· Will there be any impact if there is no Title Sponsorship?
During this economic crisis,
it’s very difficult to get any sponsor but if anybody gets ready also for
becoming a Title sponsor for the IPL
2020, it’s sure that the deal price will be comparatively low than the
previous ones with VIVO. BCCI is planning to get one good
sponsor also with a good deal.
1.
In the year 2008, BCCI got DLF as a Title sponsor for the period
of five years (2008-2012) with the
sponsorship fee of ₹40 crores (US$5.6
million) per year.
2.
In the year 2013, BCCI got Pepsi as a Title sponsor for the period
of three years (2013-2015) with the
sponsorship fee of ₹79.2 crores (US$11.1
million) per year.
3.
In the year 2016, BCCI got VIVO as a Title sponsor for the period
of one year (2016-2017) with the
sponsorship fee of ₹100 crores (US$14.0
million).
4.
Again, VIVO signed the
contract for 6 years (2018-2023) with
the sponsorship fee of ₹439.8 crores
(US$61.7 million).
These deal with VIVO shocked
many companies because it was 5.5 times
the amount which was there in 2016
and everyone was surprised with such a good deal.
